Estava à pouco a ler a parte dos comentários do site VirtualR, quando vi um post bastante inteligente:
Quote:"What’s missing?"
In my opinion it is obviuous: we need a simracing-organization (call it "Simracing-FIA" or whatever) for all of us.
The main problem is that there are simply too many blogs, league websites and small communities around there which do basically nearly all the same - and a lot of them are convinced that they are better than other leagues and they are not really willing to share.
1. The so called "simracing-community" is spread into different "sim-communities": rFactor, iRacing, SimBin-titles etc. - and each sim-community tends to claim that their sim is the best.
2. In each "sim-community" you can find hundreds or thousands of "league-communities" where a couple of people have organized a place or an opportunity to race with friends.
3. Each league (or most of them) wants to be "unique", wants to be "the most realistic one", the most "convincing one" to attract as many people as possible.
The main problem: most leagues are not really interested in working together, most leagues are trying to keep their drivers in "their" league - and so there is a strong competition out there between the leagues. The result: You can find hundreds of leagues which are doing basically the same!
In my opinion there is only one way to do things better: there has to be an organization like "Simracing-FIA" - an organization which is coordinating all kind of races, leagues and series, an organization which is giving driving licenses to their members, which is dividing leagues in sub-leagues (e.g. formula 1, formula 2, formula 3,... so that drivers with similar skills can join in a race together) etc..
Possible? No (in my opinion) - simply because most of the leagues out there are doing "their own thing". There are platforms like Lutz Enger's "Onlinemorsport.com" which are trying to keep different kind of leagues and sims together - very successful, but most of the leagues are not interested in sharing drivers, server times etc. And so - I'm afraid - we will always have a huge amount of leagues, each league organized well inside but outside (nearly) no organization at all.
Strange? Yes. Is it a pity? Yes. Is there a chance to change it? No - if you ask me. And I believe another new community blog or something like this will not help to give simracing this organization. Too many different interests I'm afraid...
Just take a simple look at rfactor: a BIG community, a HUGE amount of servertime, thousands of drivers - and not ONE single website to coordinate this community (rfactorcentral is doing it's job as a location to download mods but nothing else), and the main reason is that most leagues are not willing to "share" and "give up" a part of their autonomy. This of course is understandable and legal, but really a pity: Just lean back for some seconds and imagine ONE well-organized rFactor-community...
