ArrayFernando Alonso pipped his McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton to pole position at the Hungaroring on Saturday afternoon and starts as the odds-on favourite to win Sunday's race.


But the Spaniard's late exit from his own pit box resulted in Hamilton, who had dominated the session until that point, missing out on a final hot lap when the track was at its quickest.


It appeared as though the double world champion left his team-mate queuing to ensure the chequered flag would fall before he could start his flyer, and team boss Ron Dennis could barely hide his anger after the session.


Dennis, who is currently embroiled in a row with Ferrari over accusations of spying, has seen his relationship with the testy Spaniard deteriorate since the start of the year, and this incident is guaranteed to infuriate the team principal.


Hamilton refused to be drawn in to criticising Alonso straight after the session, saying: "There's not really much to say - you saw what happened," while Alonso tried to shift blame onto the team.


"The team held me back in this. We tried to have some space with the Ferrari (Kimi Raikkonen) in front of us," he claimed.


But unless Alonso can satisfactorily explain his actions it's possible he will be disciplined internally, and there is a chance that his position within the team could become virtually untenable if he refuses to accept any sanctions.


Ferrari, Toyota and especially his former team Renault are sure to be monitoring the situation very carefully.[/quote]
