2007 FORMULA 1™ Grande Prêmio do Brasil 2007
Realmente... o que fez o Hamilton perder o campeonato foi haver outros pilotos em pista para além dele... algo tem de mudar na Formula 1.

ArrayBernie Ecclestone has claimed it was McLaren’s “silly” strategy switch for Lewis Hamilton in Brazil that cost the Briton the world championship title.

The Woking squad opted to move the pre-race title leader onto a three-stop strategy following the temporary gearbox glitch that dropped him down to 18th place.

However despite having fought his way up to 10th by the time of his first stop, he went on to finish the race in only seventh place – two positions and just nine seconds short of the fifth place he needed to deny Kimi Raikkonen the title.

McLaren boss Ron Dennis was subsequently forced to defend the strategy switch, insisting that it had actually gained Hamilton time and wasn’t the reason he lost the championship.

“People are very quick to talk about strategy but the simple headline is that Fernando, who executed a perfect two stop-strategy in our opinion, was 33 seconds ahead of Lewis when we chose to switch to a three-stop strategy and at the end of the race was 20 seconds ahead of him,” he said.

“So we think the strategy made up between 10 and 15 seconds.

“I stress, the only reason we didn’t win the championship was the gearbox problem.”

Formula 1 supremo, Ecclestone, however, has since blasted Dennis’s decision.

He insists the extra stint on low fuel and soft tyres did Hamilton’s title chances no favours and that without it he would have finished high enough to become world champion.

"If he hadn't called Hamilton in for that silly low-fuel and soft-tyres stint he could have won the championship," he was quoted as saying by the Daily Telegraph newspaper.

"He made no time on the road and lost 25 seconds making the stop.

“If he had only lost 15 seconds he would have been fourth.

“I feel sorry for Lewis after his performances this year as a rookie.”

Hamilton’s difficulties allowed Ferrari ace Raikkonen to claim an unlikely maiden drivers’ title triumph after trailing his McLaren rival by seven points ahead of the Interlagos showdown.

Ecclestone suggested earlier this month that it would be better for F1 if Hamilton became world champion as he would do more to help promote the sport than either Raikkonen or Fernando Alonso.

Raikkonen has already acknowledged he will have to make more media appearances following his success and Ecclestone hopes he grows into the role of world champion.

"Raikkonen is champion,” he said.

“I just hope he starts talking more."[/quote]
